Indian writer Salman Rushdie was stabbed on stage Friday at an event in Chautauqua, New York. He is currently being treated for his injuries. Rushdie is best known for his controversial novel The Devil’s Verses.
Several reporters on the scene saw the author being attacked. They also say that the attacker has been arrested. The cause of the incident is still unclear. Rushdie was just about to give a lecture.
The Devil’s Verses came out in 1988. The work of provoked enormous anger among Muslims. The then Ayatollah Rugollah Khomeini issued a fatwa about Rushdie, who was then forced to go into hiding.
