Véronique Buyck grew up in the Roeselaarsestraat in Ardooie, where her grandfather started a potato wholesaler (the current Calsa) and where her parents ran a shop for many years.
During her law studies, she took part in the municipal elections for the first time in 2006, as a 21-year-old, at the request of Karlos Callens. Once her studies were completed, Buyck took up the mandate of alderman on January 1, 2009, the youngest ever in Ardooie.
