Verónica Cangemi: “I seek to always keep myself at the best level”

Veronica Cangemi returns to be the protagonist of “The magic Flute” in it Colon Theater 27 years after his debut. “I think it was in 1996, I already lived in Europe, where I settled since 1989. And he called me Sergio Renán to play Pamina on the Magic Flute. It was with the direction of Ivor Bolton with whom I later made a record and performances all over the world”, the lyrical singer from Mendoza told NEWS.

Cangemi, you just been awarded with the BraVo award For “Best Classical Performer”, it will once again be Pamina, the young princess, daughter of the Queen of the Night and in love with Tamino, on whom the opera composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart revolves.

“Although it is a role that I have already done, it is always a challenge. I seek to always stay at the best level. And to be in tune with a new production”, she explains, who will perform under the musical direction of Marcelo Ayub, and staging by Barrie Kosky and Suzanne Andrade, one of the most successful and surprising of the last decade for this work, inspired in the world of silent cinema and the films of Buster Keaton.

An update of Mozart in which Cangemi finds endorsement of his own validity in poetry. “I take the prize that they just gave me as a sign that I am still in the race. And also to the trajectory. I sang at La Scala, in Brussels, in Berlin, and I have a full schedule two years from now”, he reviews.

However, he says that the distinction came with surprise. “The recognition was unexpected. They had written to me and it went to spam. And they wondered ‘why he doesn’t respond’. When I saw it I thought it was one of those emails they send you to scam you on networks. But it was true,” she laughs.

“I strive to stay healthy. I take care of myself physically, in food. When they told me that such a character was not given to me because I was old, it seemed very unfair to me. They think of age instead of voice, which is what defines it. The important thing is to keep the voice fresh, and I train daily for that”, adds Cangemi in dialogue with NOTICIAS.

“After The Magic Flute I go to the Halle Festival, to do Handel. And from there to Vienna on June 28. I give a Master Class on Vivaldi, in Venice. And then Don Giovanni and Pagliacci come. A collaboration with John MalkovichStuttgart… all this in addition to curating baroque music that I do at the Teatro Colón”, concludes the singer.

“The Magic Flute” has seven performances programmed at the Colon Theater, will take place on Sunday, May 7 and 14 at 5:00 p.m.; and on Tuesday 9, Wednesday 10, Thursday 11, Friday 12 and Tuesday 16 May at 8:00 p.m.
