Vermeer’s ‘Milkmaid’ is going to stay in Hermitage | Culture

Rijksmuseum lends public favorite for six weeks

A generous gesture by the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum. To help the ailing fellow museum the Hermitage aan de Amstel, after the break with the Russian Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, it lends one of his masterpieces. The crowd favorite The Milkmaid van Vermeer (ca.1660) will be staying in the Hermitage for six weeks from Friday, which had to close its exhibition on Russian avant-garde porcelain prematurely due to the war in Ukraine.
