Verkade’s ‘shopping ladies’ image is turned around again

The image ‘Cities’, better known as ‘the shopping ladies’ by Verkade is again skewed. It is not the first time that the statue has been overturned, with the pedestal and all, at the end of 2019 the statue was knocked over by a truck.

When the image back then was put upright, it was anchored with concrete. It was still jokingly joked that the statue could take a beating again, but that turned out not to be the case this morning.

Again?

This time, too, the inhabitants of Haarlem suspect a truck or other vehicle of tapping the image. Social media reacts with surprise to the crooked artwork: ‘Again?’. According to another, it would be better to place poles around the statue from now on.

In 2019, it was first thought that the image may have shifted because the ground it stood on had subsided. It later turned out that a lorry belonging to the Zeeman had run into it.

Watch below how the statue was put back on its feet in November 2019:
