Verdi threatens retail strikes during the Christmas season

In the retail collective bargaining dispute, the Verdi union has threatened work stoppages in the Christmas business, which is important for the industry. “We are ready to negotiate. If the employers are not and there is no agreement, the strikes will continue in the Christmas and post-Christmas business,” Verdi boss Frank Werneke told the “Augsburger Allgemeine” on Friday. The work stoppages in retail had an impact.

Verdi demands at least 2.50 euros more per hour for retail employees and a term of one year. Depending on the federal state, there are additional requirements. The employers recently offered ten percent more plus an inflation compensation bonus for a term of two years. The negotiations affect millions of employees. Verdi has already called for warning strikes several times. (dpa)
