Verdi is again calling for work stoppages at Amazon centers

In the collective bargaining dispute with the shipping and online giant Amazon, which has been going on for more than ten years, the Verdi union has once again called on employees at five distribution centers in Germany to stop work. With the start of the night shift on Monday, an all-day strike is planned this Tuesday – around the so-called “Amazon Prime Days” – including in Bad Hersfeld, Leipzig, Koblenz, Rheinberg and Werne, Verdi announced on Monday evening in Berlin.

For over ten years now, Verdi has been unsuccessfully demanding that the US company recognize the applicable collective agreements for retail and mail order and that a collective agreement be concluded. Amazon regularly denies the impact of calls for work stoppages on customers.

Prime members can purchase discounted items on the “Prime Day” promotion days organized by the US company. At Amazon, it was said about the union actions that participation had been low in the past. There have never been any restrictions. (dpa)
