The Verdi union has again called on Amazon employees in several German logistics centers to walk out. The trade union announced that the occasion was “Equal Pay Day” – the international day of action for equal pay for women and men – on Monday and Women’s Day on Tuesday (March 8). In Bad Hersfeld, the work stoppages began with the night shift from Sunday to Monday.
According to Amazon, the Werne, Koblenz and Leipzig locations were also affected by actions. The company did not expect any effects, the packages would arrive. The salaries at Amazon are the same for everyone, regardless of gender, it said. Amazon has 17 logistics centers nationwide.
“As an employer, Amazon already offers excellent pay, excellent benefits and excellent career opportunities – all in a safe, modern work environment,” said an Amazon spokesman. “We already increased the wages for our logistics employees in the summer, so everyone at Amazon earns the equivalent of at least 12 euros gross per hour plus extras.” After 24 months, Amazon employees in Germany received an average of around 2,750 euros gross per month, “including limited employee shares and other extras,” according to the spokesman.
The trade union meanwhile reiterated its demand for the recognition of the collective bargaining agreements for retail and mail order by Amazon and for the conclusion of a “Good and Healthy Work” collective agreement. (dpa)
