Lufthansa and Verdi have reached an agreement in the collective bargaining dispute – that means: no more strikes.

20,000 Lufthansa employees shattered the vacation dreams of over 130,000 passengers last week. At the request of the Ver.di union, the Lufthansa ground staff stopped work from 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday to 6:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Around 1000 flights were canceled as a result of the strike – and that in the middle of the main travel season!

Michael Niggemann, Chief Human Resources Officer and Labor Director at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, called the warning strike “disproportionate”. According to information from BILD am SONNTAG, the one-day strike caused the airline damage of at least 26 million euros.

But now the agreement in the third round of negotiations!

The parties negotiated from Wednesday to Thursday evening. Verdi had demanded 9.5 percent more wages – but at least 350 euros per month – and a minimum hourly wage of 13 euros for a twelve-month term.

The parties have now agreed on this:

︎ A wage increase of 200 euros per month will be paid retroactively to July 1, 2022.

︎ From January 1, 2023, the basic monthly salary will be increased by 2.5 percent – but at least 125 euros – and from July 1, 2023 by another 2.5 percent.

BUT, still bad news for vacationers: The unions of pilots (cockpit) and flight attendants (UFO) are also demanding higher wages – and are threatening to go on strike!
