Verberne: ‘I want to remain a trainer of MVV Maastricht’ | 1Limburg

He is still interim trainer but Maurice Verberne also wants to be the head coach of MVV Maastricht next season.

Verberne spoke about the past weeks and the future in the L1 program EveningGuests Sports

Spacious enough
Verberne was at the helm of the Maastricht club for the last six games of the season after the resignation of Klaas Wels. Under Verberne, MVV had a good end of the season with eleven points from six games. Verberne gives himself a good pass for the past six weeks. “Of course because of the results, but also the development we have gone through, for example on a mental level.”

Too low
MVV eventually finished sixteenth in the Kitchen Champion Division, a place Verberne is not satisfied with. “I think, looking at the group, there would have been more. We finished too low. At the winter break we were tenth or eleventh and then you have to keep fighting for that place.”

Self-evaluation
Verberne was already assistant coach at Roda JC. The people from Brabant have learned a lot from that period. “Before I started at MVV I evaluated myself. I have become less desirous and I am more focused on development and creating a safe environment.” Verberne really wants to continue in Maastricht. “I can and I want to stay and now it is up to the club what they want. There will be more clarity about that in the coming days or weeks.”

Assistant
If Verberne does not become a head coach, he also wants to remain as an assistant. “At the moment I do. I still have a permanent contract and I know where the club wants to go. They want to develop talents and establish a certain vision and I fit in well. Preferably as a head coach of course, but if I take a step back I have to put it like this and then I adapt.”
