In the interview with Candida Morvillo, Vera Gemma retraced parts of her story. Speaking for example about the world of circus. «I grew up in circuses. Dad learned to be a stuntman there. When he died in 2013, I felt the need to find him again in an environment where they loved him, I started spending my days in circuses, I shot a documentary about that world ».

Tamer at the circus
The love with the circus world has become increasingly stronger. «Becoming a tamer came naturally: I entered the cages to bring food to the animals, who got used to me and considered me the leader of the pack.”
And he explained: «I toured in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. In the circus I found my way of being an artist». Also because, as he had the opportunity to explain, despite some small parts with Dario Argento, Paolo Virzì and Pupi Avati, at a certain point she decided to abandon her dream of being an actress in Italy. «I stopped when I realized that in Italy they would never have taken me as a protagonist. I’m not beautiful enough to be beautiful, I’m not the ugly one who makes you laugh. My face makes you think of extreme things but, here, there are no protagonists with extreme characters».
Past as a stripper
Then Vera Gemma talked about the moment she found herself in without money at twenty-five, after the death of his mother, Natalia Roberti. «When mum died, I inherited e I ate my money in no time. Dad told me that he wouldn’t give me a cent.”
In that moment, Gem (in Venice winner as Best Actress in the section Horizons) she decided to be a stripper. «I decide to go to Los Angeles, I try to propose myself as a waitress, nothing… At a certain point, I discover a strip tease club, The Body Shop, with very high level shows. I had never done strip but I had studied classical and modern dance. I auditioned and they took me on the same evening. I earn 1200 euros immediately. In one day, I returned to the standard of living I had always had».
He added about this. «Never felt like a woman was an object. In reverse. Never felt such a sense of omnipotence. The stripper is a dream to look at and not touch and the Americans are crazy: they throw two hundred dollar tips, you take money away just to watch you dance».
