Ventilus: Mayors want health guarantees

Mayor Bart Dochy of Ledegem is the spokesperson for the mayors.

“We are disappointed with the way we were treated last night in the online meeting with the Flemish government and the German professor Westermann. It seemed like a mandatory number in which as few questions as possible were answered.”

“Guarantees for health”

When Ventilus comes above ground, they want enforceable anchored health care, Mayor Barty Dochy said. “The maximum standard is being drawn up, just like the monitoring, but it is not yet clear how the maximum annual average load will be anchored in the law.”

Based on the Westermann report, the mayors now want Flanders to take the lead in the development of underground high voltage for other projects.

And finally: the mayors will consider the legal options when establishing the new spatial plan for the Ventilus connection. That means they will review objections or legal proceedings.

This morning, the Flemish government is meeting in Brussels about the Ventilus file.
