Venloop director: ‘Organization was quite an operation’ | 1Limburg

After two postponed editions, the Venloop in Venlo could continue again last weekend. Thousands of people ran different distances on Saturday and the runners came into action on Sunday.

Director Wim Lensen has had a good weekend, he told the L1Nieuwsshow on Monday morning.

‘Reinventing the wheel’
Because the two previous editions could not continue due to corona, organizing the event was again quite an operation. “It feels like you had to reinvent the wheel. You have had to deal with a changing government and circumstances. We had corona for two years. Suppliers no longer exist and we have postponed it a number of times. You cram everything up with that a calendar that is actually already full,” says Lensen.

Heat
Due to the warm weather, the organization had to take extra measures. “We have set up more drinking stations and the Limburg Museum served as a cooling area. We have also scaled up the ambulance and Emergency Response (EH).” According to Lensen, there were times when it was actually full of participants.

Fewer spectators in Velden
Another consequence of the continual postponement of this edition is the reduced number of spectators along the route. “Certainly in Velden it is always a big party. Now they were busy with the carnival preparations for crazy Monday.”

Next year’s edition of the Venloop is planned for 25 March.
