TOnannounced by the director Alberto Barbera The plan of the Venice Film Festival 2023edition 80 of the International Film Festival scheduled at the Lido from 30 August to 9 September. There are 23 films in competitionof which 15 signed by directors in Venice for the first time. The Italians selected for the Golden Lion are 6 Edoardo De Angelis (his is the opening film of the Exhibition, Commanderin place of Challengers di Guadagnino, withdrawn due to the strikes of US actors and screenwriters), Pietro Castellitto, Saverio Costanzo, Giorgio Rights, Matteo Garrone and Stefano Sollima. Three women: Sophia Coppola, Ava DuVernay e Agnieszka Holland.
Also present Micaela Ramazzotti with Happiness, debut of the actress behind the camera in the Extra Horizons section. While in Horizons, the main section, there are Liliana Cavani (she will be awarded the Lion for Lifetime Achievement) with The Order of Time (from the essay by Carlo Rovelli) and Luca Barbareschi with The Penitent.
In Fiction Horizons space also for two great cinema pariahs, Woody Allen and Roman Polanskirespectively with Coupe de Chance (all French cast and production) e The Palace. Two films that have been ready for some time. Other notable names are Harmony Korine, Wes Anderson with a 72 minute short film, Richard Linklater, David Fincher, Yorgos Lanthimos (but Emma Stone will stay at home), Bradley Cooper with the biopic on Leonard Bernstein and Michael Mann always with a biopic on Enzo Ferrari (played by Adam Driver).
