The Killer by David Fincher
Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alexis “Matz” Nolent (illustrated by Luc Jacamon), with score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and a super cast (Michael Fassbender, Tilda Swinton, Charles Parnell and Arliss Howard, Kerry O’Malley) , The Killer by David Fincher tells of a killer who challenges his clients, and himself, starting a spectacular manhunt.

The genre revenge
“The Killers it represents my personal attempt to reconcile the vision I have had of cinematic stories for years with the way of telling them. I’ve always thought that the sentence: “What were you doing in Chinatown? As little as possible…” (from Roman Polanski’s masterpiece, ed) is the most successful evocation of a backstory that I have ever heard. I also had a certain curiosity about the genre revengeas a tool to create tension» explains the director.

La bête by Bertrand Bonello is set in a near future where artificial intelligence reigns, emotions are considered a threat. To get rid of it, Gabrielle (Léa Seydoux) has to purify her DNA by going back through previous lives, where she meets Louis (George MacKay), her great love. But she is afraid, she feels that the catastrophe is near…
“First, I wanted to portray a woman and deal with love and melodrama. After that, put it all into genre cinema, since in my opinion love stories and genre cinema are a good combination» says the director. «I wanted to mix the intimate and the spectacular, classicism and modernity, the known and the unknown, the visible and the invisible. Talk about, perhaps, the most excruciating of feelings, the fear of love. The film is also a portrait of a woman, which almost becomes a documentary about an actress».

Die Theorie von Allem by Timm Kröger
Complicated the plot of Die Theorie von Allem by Timm Kröger (in the cast, Jan Bülow, Olivia Ross, Hanns Zischler, Gottfried Breitfuss, David Bennent, Philippe Graber). We are in 1962 at a physics conference in the Swiss Alps, where an Iranian scientist intends to unveil “a revolutionary theory of quantum mechanics”. When Johannes Leinert and his PhD supervisor show up at their five-star hotel, the organizer has disappeared into thin air. And one of the German physicists is found dead. For the protagonist, a nightmare begins.
«It is as if Hitchcock and Lynch and many other filmmakers, known or forgotten, were making love on the carpeted hall of an old hotel, where a utility music like that of Bernard Herrmann, arousing at the same time dramatic irony and genuine and sincere emotion» explains the director, as cryptic as he is a cinephile. “Is it the tragic story of a misunderstood genius, or are we witnessing the paranoid hallucinations of a madman with obsessive disorders?”.
The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial by William Friedkin
Tribute to the memory of William Friedkin the screening of The Caine Mutiny Court-Martialwith Kiefer SutherlandJason Clarke, Jake Lacy, Monica Raymund and Lance Reddick. The plot is (fairly) known, as it is the same as The Caine Mutiny with Humphrey Bogart. When a US Navy captain shows signs of mental instability, his ship’s first mate relieves him of command and faces court-martial for mutiny. As the trial progresses, the lawyer becomes increasingly interested in clarifying, wondering if Caine’s was simply the courageous act of a group of sailors who could no longer trust their unstable captain.
«The Caine Mutiny Court-Martialoriginally written by one of the masters of his time, Herman Wouk, is a film I have long awaited to make. I knew I wanted to create a very tense and hectic situation that could develop with lightning speed. I have purposely chosen to leave the question of right and wrong shrouded in the utmost ambiguity.
