Veenvaart Ahoy! Ten years of Veenvaart in Southeast Drenthe: from New Amsterdam/Veenoord to Erica

Attracting more tourists to the Peat Colonies: that was the underlying idea behind the peat boat tour in Southeast Drenthe, which has been in existence for ten years this year. The sailing route from New Amsterdam to Ter Apel completed the Drenthe tour in 2013 and that milestone is central to the RTV Drenthe series Veenvaart Ahoy!.

A new canal has been dug, new locks have been installed and all bridges have been upgraded.

After ten years it is time to take stock from the water. What is there to do in the area, what has boating recreation brought to the area and what can still be improved on and along the route?

The first part of the tour focuses on New Amsterdam/Veenoord, which this year is all about the Van Gogh year. For example, presenter Janet Oortwijn visits the Van Gogh House and the life-size murals on the old grain silo at the station.
