Veenvaart Ahoy! Ten years of Veenvaart in Southeast Drenthe: from Erica to Klazienaveen

This year the peat boating is celebrating its tenth anniversary. The sailing route from New Amsterdam to Ter Apel completed the Drenthe tour in 2013 with the intention of attracting more tourists to the Peat Colonies. After ten years, RTV Drenthe takes stock from the water: what there is to do in the area, what has boating recreation achieved for the area and what can still be improved on and along the route.

Janet Oortwijn sails the entire route with the snickering “Johannes Veldkamp” and makes excursions along the way on a special folding bicycle. It starts today in Erica, where the entire area still bears witness to the glorious peat past. After a visit to the narrow-gauge museum, she continues the journey to Klazienaveen. Along the way, historian Jans Jagt talks about the special landscape and the origins of Klazienaveen.
