The richest Flemish consume 70 percent more electricity than the poorest. General subsidies therefore mainly weigh on the wealthy. This has been assumed for some time – hence the European Commission’s criticism of the VAT reduction – but it is now also apparent from a study by the progressive think tank Minerva, De Standaard writes.
