Vappu Pimiä tells how the family’s everyday life changed after the man left his job – “It still seems very busy”

Vappu Pimiä and Teemu Huuhtanen’s relationship is supported by humor and daily teasing.

Finding a partner is challenging – not only inside the Ring of Three but also in the countryside.

Vappu Pimiä, 45, knows this. He has already hosted seven seasons A bride for the farmer program. The latest season is just coming to TV.

For home couches, the love journey of rural singles may seem easy. The partner candidates write to their heart’s content, date at the farm week and are about to throw the hay on the fence, the engagement ring shining anonymously and the plans for the rest of their lives clear.

However, it doesn’t quite work out that way.

This autumn, Vappu Pimi will be hosting not only the Maajussille morsian show but also the Dancing with the Stars competition on television. Inka Soveri

Leelia lounge chair

Vappu says that there have been big disappointments behind the scenes.

– Two bride-to-be have gone home in the middle of the farm week, when the choice of country juss was immediately clear. And the jussita, who has already made her choice, heard new information about the man on the last night, which messes up the plans, Vappu gives examples.

He reveals that he has done various therapy walks with the participants off-camera. The situation has been discussed there and Vappu has also given his own tips.

– Young participants in particular may get anxious when they realize that wishes are coming true and a relationship is really being born here.

– I have consoled myself that the program doesn’t oblige you to anything, you don’t have to get married. But it’s worth looking at the cards, says Vappu.

Of course, the host shouldn’t have to share relationship tips, but he does it naturally.

– I’m there, Leelia’s lounge chair, out of my own free will!

– I wouldn’t be good at this job if I wasn’t interested in people, Vappu sums up.

And he has his own lived life to draw from. Vappu has been in a relationship basically his entire adult life.

A long warm-up

His current spouse Teemu Huuhtanen Vappu met Easter in Tahko.

At the time, Teemu lived 10,000 kilometers away in California.

– For the next year and a half after our first meeting, we lived our own lives. We were in regular contact and saw Teemu when he visited Finland, but nothing else.

– We played cat and mouse before we really started dating, Vappu reveals.

However, a long warm-up was in order, because both of them had recently divorced and wanted to experience the single life as well.

– Although Teemu had some clever idea in his head that after the previous relationship he must be alone for three years, Vappu updates.

He admits that he was the one who fell into a relationship more than the other two and that he even gave a fiery speech on the subject. In Vapu’s opinion, it is pointless to waste time chasing.

After the man

When there was a good gap in the work patterns, Vappu decided to follow Teemu to the Jenks for several months.

– I didn’t intend to become a housewife for some reason, I had to have my own thing to do. As a lively girl, I called Radio Nova and announced that this is a foreign reporter for you, Vappu recalls.

Some were horrified how she dared to make such a transfer because of a man.

– I don’t think there was anything surprising about it. After all, there will be machines from Los Angeles to Finland, if it doesn’t work, the woman announced to Topakast.

And it worked.

– We had known each other for a year and a half and dated for a month, when I already brought up big things like the issue of children. Fortunately, we were on the same page.

– A year after we started dating, I was pregnant, Vappu says.

Humor and banter

When Teemu returned to Finland, things progressed quickly. The couple got married in 2013, the daughters are now 10 and 8 years old.

– The proposal came out of the blue. I had already been married once, so getting married was not an issue for me. We had talked about children but not marriage.

– That’s why I was so confused when Teemu proposed that I was silent for a long time. Teemu already thought I wouldn’t agree!

Last spring, the couple celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary. In honor of May Day, she put on her wedding dress at the Salon cabin and one of the daughters took a new wedding photo. Teemu poses in that Hankkija cap.

The photo sums up the pair’s mutual chemistry:

– The most important thing is shared humor. We laugh at similar things, especially everyday incidents.

– And every day you have to pack! It distinguishes a relationship from a relationship with friends or roommates, Vappu reminds.

– The proposal came out of the blue. I had already been married once, so getting married was not an issue for me. We had talked about children but not about getting married, Vappu recalls a confusing moment from the past. Inka Soveri

New patterns

Of course, the couple also have their own challenges. Vappu, for example, gets things done faster than her husband, Teemu is neater. Differences can sometimes boil over. But there are no angry people in the family.

– Just yesterday I told our pre-teen, who scolded us for being stupid parents, to not let the sun go down on anger. It makes me feel bad, Vappu says.

Teemu has had even more time for his family since spring, as he left the role of CEO of game company Next Games in April.

– Teemu says he is unemployed but not a job seeker. And the man still seems very busy, Vappu laughs.

Turn on the sounds

For some couples, the increased presence of the other at home may even be a place of crisis. However, Vapu’s work is so mobile that he is happy when he gets extra strength to transport the children to their hobbies.

Actually, nothing has changed in everyday life. Except that now it’s louder at home.

– It will come as a surprise to many that I miss complete silence as a counterweight to work. Teemu always turns on the radio, Vappu says.

All weekends are spent as a family at the cottage, but at some point the time comes when the daughters might have other things to do.

– Terrible! I don’t want to think about the whole thing. I wish the children wouldn’t grow up at all. Even though yesterday we were stupid in the pre-teens’ opinion, we still hug and cuddle, Vappu says.

Cupid’s sidekick

The success process of the Maajussille bride program has been big. Last season, all male and female males found a partner and two of the couples are now expecting a baby.

Lovers in the previous season Kalle and Nina got married this summer and only recently Vappu received a phone call from a couple of years ago, who found the right one among the few letters and is getting married next summer.

– I can often see right away who has a bad mood. Kalle and Niina were an obvious couple from the beginning, as well as a few seasons ago Tumo and Berry.

– Sometimes I also push people together a bit. For example, I already hinted to Tuomo in Naantali to check that redhead. I could see right away that they and Marjo were a perfect match! Vappu reveals.

Personal and common things

The day begins even in Maajus after filming. Commitment and flexibility are needed on both sides to make the relationship last. There may be new family patterns and a long distance.

But everything can be solved, as Vappuk knows from experience. What then, even if the man lives temporarily, for example, behind a shed, or he has to be softened up for dating for a year and a half?

When common chemistry is found, the rest is up to the couple themselves.

Speaking at Kalle and Niina’s Maajussi wedding this summer, Vappu shared his mother’s advice to the newlyweds:

– You have to have your own and shared time, your own and shared hobbies, and your own and shared friends. It goes a long way.
