After his surprising victory in the Libéma Open earlier this month, Van Rijthoven received a direct ticket for the main tournament in England. As a result, De Brabander did not have to play qualifying matches for the Grand Slam tournament.
The first set seemed to fall for Delbonis after Van Rijthoven was broken at a 3-2 deficit, but the Dutchman immediately showed resilience. Delbonis ran out to 5-2, but Van Rijthoven then won three games in a row and dragged out a tiebreak. He took the first set 9-7.
Van Rijthoven took that good feeling into the second set, in which he only needed 26 minutes to take a 2-0 lead. Delbonis was not involved and saw his opponent win the set 6-1. Van Rijthoven continued that form into the third set, which he won 6-2 and secured the second round at Wimbledon.
