Van Quickenborne is not stepping down

“Years of Impunity”

According to the unions, violence against police officers is currently not a priority for the judiciary. “For years there has been impunity in Brussels over violence against the police. Agents really feel abandoned at the moment,” Carlo Medo of the NSPV told VRT NWS. The VSOA, another police union, also criticizes the West Flemish minister.

“There is zero tolerance for violence against the police”

Minister Van Quickenborne himself maintains that since 2020, one month after he took office as Minister of Justice, there has been a zero tolerance for violence against the police. “As soon as there is violence with at least one day of incapacity for work, it will be prosecuted,” Van Quickenborne says in ‘De Morgen’ on Radio 1. “There will be no dismissal.”

The Minister of Justice wants to account for himself as soon as possible, including before parliament. That is possible next Monday. “I will offer complete transparency and clarity there,” said Van Quickenborne on Radio 1.

On November 28, there is a national demonstration of the police unions to denounce the violence against the police.
