Of course there was disappointment at PSV after the draw against Bodø/Glimt. But trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij also looked at many aspects from another side. He expanded the story and sees a good development of his team. He also had a special message to the outside world.
In two weeks, PSV loses to Rangers FC and FC Twente, and plays a disappointing draw against Bodø/Glimt. It is an understatement to assume that the Eindhoven residents are not in shape. But Van Nistelrooij tried to illuminate everything positively afterwards.
“I look at it broader than a few bad results. We are already eleven games on the way. We lost twice. I look at it from the beginning of the preparation to now. I am satisfied with the development of the team. We are taking giant steps compared to the match against Arminia Bielefeld.”
“You shouldn’t dismiss the current season as a disaster”
The trainer continues his story: “You should not dismiss the current season as a disaster. Of course I also expect a lot from PSV and the development is never fast enough. A lot has changed and that takes time.”
The former striker could understand that his team was treated to a flute concert afterwards. “We are also disappointed with the result. So I can understand that reaction.”
Because they couldn’t be satisfied in Eindhoven, but everything was put into perspective. “This is not a bug, but a disappointment. Unfortunately, we didn’t create enough to win today.”
“We have the ambition to compete for the championship”
Finally, afterwards the question was asked whether the people around the club did not expect too much from PSV. Van Nistelrooij responded with a remarkable statement. “I never said that PSV should become champions. We have the ambition to compete for the championship, to win the cup and to show ourselves in Europe.”
In doing so, he contradicted technical director John de Jong, who stated two months ago during the training camp in Germany that he wanted to go over Ajax. It will lead to frowning eyebrows in and around Eindhoven.
