Sydney van Hooijdonk will also play for sc Heerenveen next season. The 22-year-old striker is rented from Bologna, just like in the second half of last season. There is no option to purchase included in the contract.
Van Hooijdonk exchanged NAC Breda for Bologna a year ago. The son of former professional Pierre van Hooijdonk barely got to play in Italy and chose to move to Heerenveen on a rental basis at the beginning of this year.
He made a good impression in the service of the Frisian club. The native from Breda scored seven times in fifteen matches. Partly thanks to his input, Heerenveen made it to the play-offs for European football, in which AZ was too strong in the semi-finals.
“We are very happy that Sydney’s stay with us will be continued. We made no secret of the fact that we wanted to keep him here,” said Ferry de Haan, Heerenveen’s technical manager.
“Over the past six months, he has proven to be an absolute added value for us, both on and off the field. Sydney fits perfectly into the group and with his mentality also perfectly at sc Heerenveen.”
Earlier this summer, Heerenveen already recorded goalkeeper Andries Noppert, defender Hussein Ali and attackers Mats Köhlert and Alex Timossi. This is offset by the departure of a large number of players.
