Van Hooijdonk shoots Heerenveen in cup past NAC Breda

Sydney van Hooijdonk, born in Breda and former player of NAC, killed his old club on Tuesday evening. Due to two hits from the Heerenveen striker, the Breda team was eliminated in the eighth finals of the KNVB Cup tournament. The visitors from Friesland won 1-2 in Breda.

Heerenveen is number 8 in the Eredivisie, NAC Breda is in eleventh place in the Kitchen Champion Division.

The recently recruited Tom Boere gave NAC the lead after just over fifteen minutes. The striker scored in the rebound, after goalkeeper Xavier Mous had cleared the ball in the first instance.

In the extra time of the first half it became 1-1. Van Hooijdonk tapped in the ball after a cross from Rami Kaib. Shortly after the break, it was again ‘box office’ for Van Hooijdonk. Now he hit after an assist from Milan van Ewijk.

Van Hooijdonk senior proud
Father Pierre sat in the stands of the Rat Verlegh Stadium. The former player and current commissioner of the Breda club said in advance that he would prefer to see NAC reach the next round. The fact that his son was responsible for the elimination meant a plaster on the wound. Despite the loss of NAC, Van Hooijdonk senior was proud, because his son will continue in the tournament.

The two told the ESPN reporter that they had made a bet in advance: the winner would treat the other to dinner. It is therefore Father Pierre’s turn.
