Michael van Gerwen won the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam on Sunday. De Vlijmenaar dealt with world champion Luke Littler. It became 11-7. “I did not expect that I was capable of this,” said Van Gerwen after the game.
Van Gerwen stood cheering and with wet eyes on stage. His daughter Zoë climbed on stage and proudly gave him a big hug. “This is the best moment there is. We all know where I come from. To show this for our own audience, the world means,” he told reporter Arjen van der Giesen.
It was his first final of a big tournament since the lost World Cup final in January against Littler. He then had a difficult period, both in his private life and in sports. “A week ago I really didn’t think this. I started this tournament with the idea of just throwing fun competitions, but I didn’t expect that I was able to do this until this was able.”

Van Gerwen won the World Series Finals five times before, last in 2023. That was also the last major tournament that he managed to win. In addition to the title, he now goes home with 92,000 euros in prize money.
