“Thank you for all the get well wishes after my surgery,” Van Gerwen tweeted on Wednesday. “It went very well. I’m looking forward to returning to Amsterdam this weekend for the Viaplay Dutch Darts Masters.”
Van Gerwen only missed Players Championship 17 and the World Cup of Darts due to his wrist surgery, which was won this weekend by the Australia of Simon Whitlock and Damon Heta. The Netherlands stranded in the semifinals with Dirk van Duijvenbode and Danny Noppert.
Van Gerwen suffered from wrist for a year and a half
After the Premier League final that he won in Berlin, Van Gerwen discussed his wrist injury in detail. A day before his operation, De Brabander said, among other things, that he had been suffering from the so-called carpal tunnel syndrome for a year and a half.
“It’s a bad feeling. Sometimes it flares up when I touch my hand, then it suddenly starts to tingle. It bothers me more and more and I know that I have to do something about it,” said Van Gerwen.
“I have tried everything, had injections to ensure that I would appear fit on the oche. But it can no longer be like this. I am in good hands with my doctor and have a lot of confidence that the operation will go well. “
At the Dutch Darts Masters, eight top darts players from the PDC compete against eight Dutch darts players. In addition to Van Gerwen, world champions Peter Wright, Gerwyn Price, Van Duijvenbode and Noppert are also present. An amount of more than 23,000 euros is ready for the winner.
