Van Gaal receives a striking present from De Kuip after ‘old junk’ verdict Football

The national coach had quite a bit of criticism on the facilities of the stadium in Rotterdam on Saturday after the game against Poland in De Kuip and also grumbled that only a pot of coffee was on the table for the staff. On Tuesday, he found an espresso machine with a ticket in the locker room.

The national coach got that ticket during his interview before the match at the NOS smiling out of his pocket and showing it to the camera. “Dear Mr Van Gaal, we hope this coffee will taste better to you,” it read. “Have fun and good luck today. With kind regards, Team Stadium Feyenoord.”

Van Gaal, who described the facilities in De Kuip on Saturday as “old junk”, was happy with the stadium’s gesture. “I was surprised by the espresso machine in our dressing room. A very sweet card. I brought him especially. They don’t do it for nothing. Maybe they agree with me,” he said with a laugh.

Last weekend, the national coach was still critical of the facilities in the Rotterdam stadium. “The technical staff should be here in the gym. A pot of coffee is placed on a table. And at halftime it is so tight that I stand with my back to ten or twelve players. That is of course not possible,” said Van Gaal, who indicated that he has a preference for the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam.
