The Dutch national team will play with many reserve players on Tuesday in the Nations League match against Wales. Vincent Janssen, Tyrell Malacia and Bruno Martins Indi, among others, are given a chance by national coach Louis van Gaal.
Lineup Orange
- Cillessen; Teze, De Ligt, Martins Indi; Hateboer, Koopmeiners, De Jong, Malacia; gakpo; Long, Janssen.
Wales lineup
- Hennessey; Davies, Mepham, Rodon, Burns; Wilson, Smith, Ampadu, Thomas; Johnson, James.
Van Gaal had previously announced that Janssen would play. The striker of the Mexican CF Monterrey did not join the Orange until later because of his marriage in the United States and did not make this international period for the Netherlands for a minute. It will be his first international match for the former striker of AZ, among others, since October 10, 2017.
Matthijs de Ligt and goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen were also known to play against Wales, which was defeated 1-2 in Cardiff last Wednesday by a late goal by Wout Weghorst. De Ligt wears the captain’s armband in De Kuip.
Compared to the previous game against Poland (2-2) Van Gaal opts for ten new names. Only Frenkie de Jong will keep his starting spot. The national coach previously indicated that he wants to test all players from his selection with a view to the World Cup in Qatar at the end of this year. Guus Til is the only field player who has not been given a base place during this international match.
Almost all the basic players against Poland are on the bench against Wales. Only Nathan Aké and Jurriën Timber are missing from Van Gaal’s match selection: they are given a rest for the last international match of this period and have been referred to the stands.

Bale starts on the bench at Wales
Wales national team coach Rob Page has not drafted his strongest team either. Just like last week in Cardiff, star player Gareth Bale starts on the bench with the country, which recently qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 64 years.
With seven points from three matches, the Orange is the leader in the group with Belgium and Poland. Those two countries also meet on Tuesday. With a win over Wales, the Netherlands takes a big step towards the group win, which results in a place in the Nations League Finals. The KNVB can therefore organize the final tournament in June next year.
The Netherlands-Wales starts on Tuesday at 8.45 pm in De Kuip and is led by Romanian referee Horatiu Fesnic. The game in Rotterdam is in the spotlight because Van Gaal was critical of the stadium facilities last Saturday. The national coach talked about “old junk”.
