Reuser, who has been active in all kinds of coaching positions at the KNVB since 2014, is regarded as a coaching talent and is rewarded by Van Gaal for his development. Last season he was assistant coach of the Netherlands Under 16 and coach of the Netherlands Under 18. As of next season, the Amsterdammer will take on the Orange Under 19. To prepare for that, he is already part of the staff of Bert Konterman, who currently coaches that team and will play European Championship qualifiers against Serbia, Norway and Ukraine in June.

With the choice to take Reuser to the World Cup, Van Gaal brings an old acquaintance on board. The midfielder was part of the Ajax selection, which won the Champions League and World Cup in 1995 under the current national coach.
