After the report came out that the former goalkeeper of Ajax and Manchester United, among others, had been affected by the cerebral hemorrhage, there was a lot of support from football. The players of Ajax made a statement of support for Van der Sar during the first practice match on Saturday. His family previously said they were deeply touched by the many messages.

Resigned as general manager

At the end of May, Van der Sar announced that he was resigning his duties at the club after eleven years on the board. He indicated a need to ‘take a step back, relax and do other things’. It is not yet clear who will be his replacement. Ajax expects to be able to announce the new composition of the management soon after August 1. The club would prefer someone with an Ajax background again.
