Mathieu van der Poel has won the cycling classic Paris-Roubaix. The Dutchman from Alpecin-Deceuninck rode the last 15 kilometers solo to the finish in Roubaix after his Belgian rival Wout van Aert had to get off his bike on one of the last cobbled sections due to a puncture. Shortly after him, the Belgian Jasper Philipsen, a teammate of Van der Poel, finished second. Van Aert finished third.

Former winner John Degenkolb crashed just under 20 kilometers from the finish. The German had come into contact with Van der Poel, who should have swerved slightly for Philipsen.

Van der Poel already triumphed in Milan-Sanremo earlier this year. In 2020 and 2022 he won the Tour of Flanders. He also became cyclocross world champion for the fifth time this year.
