The cabinet took four decisions on Wednesday evening, Van der Burg said after the consultation. In addition to making buildings more readily available, Van der Burg also wants to distribute Ukrainians across the country differently. There are municipalities that do want to free up reception capacity for this group, but not for other refugees. By accommodating as many Ukrainians as possible in those places, space is freed up in municipalities that it makes no difference whether they receive Ukrainians or asylum seekers.
The State Secretary also announced that three large cruise ships will be brought to the Netherlands. This has been worked on for some time, but it is not yet clear where they will be located. One of the three will be in Velzen, the other two are still looking for a place. Initially, Vlissingen was also in the picture, but that municipality withdrew. The State Secretary has also asked whether there is still room to be made available on the Defense sites.
