Van against bus shelter: Girl dies, two seriously injured

The circumstances of the accident are remarkable. A van deviated from its lane and drove into a bus shelter, where the victims were waiting for the bus. A third woman is also seriously injured.

The cause of the accident is currently not clear. The public prosecutor’s office is on site to investigate the circumstances. The driver of the van (born in 1959, from Zonnebeke) was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was not on his mobile phone. An expert has been appointed to investigate exactly how the accident could have happened.

The Ooigemstraat is completely closed to all traffic.
