Thousands of spectators will be in Breda on Sunday along the route of the Vuelta, which will pass through West Brabant on Sunday. Both the start and the finish of the third stage are in Breda.
The stage started with an unofficial start at 12.25 pm in Breda, where the riders walked through the Grote Kerk with their bicycles.
Only at Ulvenhout does the real start signal follow, after which it first heads south to Baarle-Nassau, then north to Moerdijk. The peloton then makes a long loop in West Brabant and the finish is in Breda around 5.15 pm.
“You notice that it really lives here in Breda, the Vuelta.”
Some spectators were early in the city center to get a good spot along the route. “I was here at 10 o’clock”, says a man, “but that’s not a problem because it is very cosy. And last night there was already a party here. You notice that it is really alive, the Vuelta.”
“I want to see Mike Teunissen in his red jersey,” says a true Breda native in the crowd. “The atmosphere is great, but there’s no other way here.”
The riders will fly to Spain the same evening, where the Vuelta continues on Tuesday.
