Valtteri Bottas performed his best of the season, but still fell short.
Bottas drove for the first time this season in the final part of qualifying. It remained a mystery as to where Alfa Romeo’s Finnish driver could have reached. Bottas didn’t get a time lap at all in Q3, when the red flags put the session in the package prematurely.
In an interview with Viaplay, Bottas clarified his team’s risk tactics.
– There was a bad moment at the end. Didn’t get a lap with only one set of tires left. But that’s how it is sometimes, Bottas stated.
The best of the season for this place felt good.
– This was needed. The last races have not been easy. Now that it works here, it’s good for everyone. To myself too, Bottas admitted.
Getting into the top ten was good.
– Even if you knew what caused this, Bottas laughed.
– The car seems to fit here. We got the adjustments right and when the confidence in the car is right, the result is like this.
Bottas’ performance shows how to play with small margins in the middle class.
– Even a small improvement can be seen immediately in the results. Now we are in a good position for the race.
Bottas finished eighth in the season opener in Bahrain. I have at least a similar result in mind on Sunday.
– No looking in mirrors. Let’s try to move forward and avoid the adjustments of the first round.
