The deceased songwriter Guus Smeets is posthumously honored with a bust in Valkenburg. Artist Wil van der Laan made the bronze bust.
The image is provided with a QR code with which you can play the song Geul ich wil dich huere can listen. The statue that will be placed at the foot of the Geulpoort will be unveiled on 2 April.
Workgroup
The arrival of the statue is the merit of Art and Culture Council Valkenburg and working group in memoriam Guus Smeets. Soon after Smeets’ death, people in Valkenburg wanted to do something to honor him. Thanks to the support of the Municipality of Valkenburg and the Art and Culture Council, this has now actually been realized.

Coronavirus
Smeets died in April 2020 from the corona virus. He was born in Valkenburg and performed under the name Guus Sjmeets. He previously sang in the duo Ezzebleef, with which he became the mainstay hit Hi I am then scored. He wrote hundreds of songs. Well-known Limburg texts by Smeets include: Oh what’s life sjoen by Frans Theunisz and de Nachraove. He also wrote: Greumelevla† Limburg girl and Veer höbbe meaning her in of the Schintaler.
