Valentino and Air France – KLM have announced a partnership with Valentino. The Italian fashion label has joined the French and Dutch airline’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SFA) program with the aim of creating a more sustainable future and reducing the environmental impact of air travel.
The SFA program was created by Air France and KLM to promote a more sustainable energy industry and reduce CO2 emissions from air travel. Through the program, the two airlines encourage companies to get involved in reducing the environmental impact of air travel.
Investments in research and development
Valentino will determine his financial contribution to the program based on an estimate of the CO2 emissions caused by his travels. The investments of companies like valentino flow into the research and development of sustainable fuels – for example from waste oil, waste and forest residues.
“Through this agreement, we will be able to promote the availability of sustainable fuels on a larger scale and make their price more competitive compared to fossil fuels,” said Stefan Vanovermeir, Managing Director of Air France-KLM East Mediterranean, in the official press release.
The advantage of these alternative fuels is that they enable a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 80 percent compared to conventional fossil fuels. The latest example of this development is the Airbus A22-300, used for medium and long-haul flights, which guarantees a 20 percent reduction in CO2 emissions. “We believe that the research and development of alternative solutions to reduce CO2 emissions must be supported in order to promote the production of sustainable fuels,” said Jacopo Venturini, CEO of Maison Valentino, in the same press release. “This partnership is part of our growing Commitments to our community and planet, and our drive to take ever more enlightened action for a sustainable future.”
Target 2050
The agreement is part of Valentino’s environmental transformation based on two pillars: creating an ethical business model and caring for the environment. For Air France and KLM, the goal is clear – CO2 emissions per km/passenger are to be reduced by 50 percent compared to 2005. In the medium term, the two airlines want to achieve the climate target of ‘net zero emissions’ by 2050.
