The world football association Fifa has finally and “with immediate effect” fired its already suspended general secretary Jerome Valcke. This was announced by Fifa on Wednesday. The reason for this is the opening of proceedings against the 55-year-old Frenchman by the adjudicatory chamber of the ethics committee last week. The investigating chamber of the body had previously submitted an application to ban Valcke for nine years. Valcke, once the right hand of Fifa President Joseph S. Blatter (Switzerland), who is now suspended until 2023, is said to have enriched himself personally by selling tickets for the World Cup finals, according to the findings of the ethics investigators. According to witnesses, he had also stated during negotiations before the official award that the 2022 World Cup was firmly assigned to Qatar.
