Val Thorens is one of the first ski areas in the Alps covered in snow Abroad

The French ski area Val Thorens is one of the first ski areas in the Alps to welcome the first layer of snow. Yesterday the first snow of the winter season fell at the end of the day. The first snowflakes also fell in Tignes and Savoie, France, at a lower altitude.

The ski resort, which with its 2,300 meters and slopes up to 3,200 meters is the highest ski area in Europe, opens the official winter sports season on November 25.

This high-altitude snowfall is in stark contrast to the lack of snow in the other Alpine ski resorts, where the first flakes are generally expected in late November.

On October 21, snow had already fallen at altitudes above 2,300 meters, but now snow has also fallen in the valley in Val Thorens.
