Vajèn van den Bosch catches her breath with her parents after a tense premiere

A dream came true for musical star Vajèn van den Bosch (24) on Sunday afternoon. She played Eponine, one of the leading roles in Les Misérables, and the reviews are rave. A day later she catches her breath with her parents in Ooijen. “It’s cosy, familiar and not as hectic as Amsterdam.”

As a ten-year-old girl, she saw the musical Les Misérables in London. “That made such a huge impression,” says Vajèn. “At the time I thought: if I could ever be on stage in such a production. And now I have succeeded and the premiere also went very well”, it sounds relieved.

“You want everything to go well.”

Although Vajèn has already played in several musicals, she was tense before the premiere. “A year ago I started auditions for Les Misérables. That is already exciting if you get through. Then months of rehearsals follow and then it has to happen when the hall is packed with well-known Dutch people and major musical producers. You want everything to go well where you’ve worked so hard for it together. That’s exciting. You don’t want to fail.”

After the performances in Amsterdam, there will be a theater tour. 30 performances are planned in Brabant. Vajèn is not the only Brabant native to play a leading role in the iconic musical. Tilburger Freek Bartels (36) shines as Javert on stage.
