“We regularly consult with the centers. They are now aware that a new mass campaign is coming in the autumn,” says Joris Moonens, spokesperson for the Agency for Care and Health.
With the first tranche of 16 million euros, local authorities can keep an expert vaccination, policy officer and HR manager on board and keep the vaccination centers ready to quickly scale up and down the capacity. If that happens, for example in the context of a new broad vaccination round, the extra resources will follow.
The timing of the autumn campaign has not yet been determined. In addition, it is not clear which target groups are eligible for an extra shot, says Moonens. But also with which vaccine this will happen, remains a question mark for the time being.
Currently, people over eighty and people in residential care centers are getting their fourth shot. So far, just under 100,000 second boosters have been put in place.
