The oldest Berlin Corona vaccination center on the exhibition grounds has had its day. It was in operation for exactly one year and 41 days on behalf of the Senate and should finally close its doors on Monday at around 5:30 p.m., as Malteser announced as the operator.
Since opening on January 18, 2021, more than 900,000 vaccinations have been administered here. “That means 900,000 times protection and hope for each individual we have accompanied and cared for here,” explained the diocesan manager of the Berlin Malteser, Henric Maes. The aid organization spoke of a “historic mission”.
Because the demand for corona vaccinations has decreased and around two-thirds of vaccinations are carried out in medical practices, the Berlin Senate decided some time ago to reduce the number of vaccination centers commissioned by the state.
As of Tuesday, four of them will still be in operation: These are the ICC and Tegel corona vaccination centers and the vaccination centers in Lichtenberg on Landsberger Allee and in the Ring-Center on Frankfurter Allee.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 77.4 percent of the Berlin population have been vaccinated against Corona at least once. A basic immunization, which usually includes two vaccinations, have 76.5 percent. 58.0 percent are boosted, i.e. have had a booster vaccination.
