Many vacationers steal small and large items from the hotel room. Not only care products, but also more valuable things. The legal situation is clear.

Shower gel and shampoo in mini bottles are classics that travelers take from their hotel rooms as souvenirs. Some vacationers are said to hoard entire collections from all over the world.

But hotel guests don’t seem to shy away from more valuable items either. This is the result of a study by the market research platform Cint on behalf of the flight search engine Swoodoo.

Accordingly, shampoo and conditioner end up in the suitcase of almost a third (30 percent) of German holidaymakers – number one in the list.

But many do not shy away from packing larger items either.

The list: bathrobes, towels (both 8 percent each), glasses, hangers or cutlery (5 percent each). The bottom line is that every second German traveler uses hotel utensils, and some even take the Bible (3 percent) with them.

The legal situation is clear: Anyone who takes objects from the hotel is liable to prosecution for theft, says Annett Reinke, a lawyer at the Brandenburg consumer advice center.

This also applies to “closed small products” such as shampoos, soaps or care products. These are intended for use during the stay – they are therefore not suitable as souvenirs.
