VAB wants standard driving license to be based on automatic gearbox

VAB, the largest driving school in the country, believes that a driving license should be standard for vehicles with an automatic gearbox. The rapid rise of electric cars makes it unnecessary in many cases to teach students to shift gears. The federal government is not immediately against the idea. “But I want to avoid that anyone who wants a driver’s license for a car with a manual gearbox has to cough up extra costs for this,” says Federal Minister of Mobility Georges Gilkinet (Green).
