“Just so much understanding of what culture is”: Usher on his favorite rapper
In the said interview, the R&B singer quickly makes it clear who is his number one in the rap game: The Notorious BIG. The reason is his timeless lyrics, which would still fit today. According to Usher, this would also show how far the US rapper was for his time and how talented he was when it came to storytelling.
“You put on Biggie’s verses and to this day they still feel like they were written today. […] His metaphors, his storytelling [sind] just so alive and [zeigen] just so much understanding of what the culture is.”
Also high on Usher’s list is rapper Busta Rhymes, whom the singer values for his speed and authenticity. In the realm of timeless rappers, the 44-year-old also sees Eminem. Usher didn’t reveal exactly why he’s a “Rap God” fan.
Most recently, Usher released his track “Boyfriend,” starring actress and singer Keke Palmer in the music video.
