Users are threatened with shutdown: Tesla’s autopilot now detects manipulation

• Tesla is making FSD Beta available to all customers in North America
• Difficult to manipulate the autopilot
• Cheat devices should be recognized – threat of shutdown

Tesla’s driver assistance software is a reason for many customers to buy it. So far, however, only a manageable number of Tesla drivers have had access to the beta software for the full self-driving functions of the electric cars – according to Tesla, it was initially 160,000. They were selected by the end of November according to certain criteria: They had to have a safety score of at least 80 and had previously tested the autopilot functions.

Since the end of November, however, the autopilot features have been available to all Tesla drivers as part of the beta version – provided they have booked and paid for the FSD package. “Tesla FSD 10.69.3.1. is now widely deployed,” tweeted Tesla CEO Elon Musk on November 19th.

Security concerns: Tesla wants to prevent manipulation

However, the beta version is still a long way from a full function for autonomous driving. Drivers are not allowed to take their hands off the steering wheel even though the FSD function is switched on – a restriction that some Tesla users have circumvented in the past by using special cheat programs.

However, the new beta software is now apparently able to detect such manipulations by Tesla’s autopilot. According to Teslascope, the FSD features should now be deactivated as soon as such a manipulation is detected.

“The latest version of Full Self-Driving Beta (V10.69.3.1) is capable of detecting some forms of autopilot defeat devices and will slowly adjust over time as Tesla discovers new methods. If one is detected, it will lead to a forced deactivation of the autopilot,” writes Teslascope on Twitter.

In addition, there are “strikes”, i.e. a blocking of the function for the entire journey. With this, Tesla would defuse its previous strike system, which had even provided for a ban on beta use in the event of several violations of the FSD usage guidelines.

Tesla’s autopilot is highly controversial among experts, and the carmaker’s recent efforts to prevent possible manipulation of the system may be part of Tesla’s strategy of handing out tranquilizers to critics. The electric car manufacturer has high hopes for its autopilot. Elon Musk has shared his vision of a fully autonomous Tesla fleet several times in the past.
