User opinion Waldhof Mannheim: The clear goal is promotion

Fan series for the 3rd division

With the help of the community, Transfermarkt will take a detailed look at the 56 teams in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and Bundesliga 3 in the coming weeks. Which players are the fans looking forward to the most, where is there room for improvement and what is in the squad for 2022/23 for your favorite club? For this we asked around in the forums and picked up assessments – in league three it continues with user “Loyal1907” and Waldhof Mannheim.

How do you rate the Waldhof Mannheim squad?

We currently have a small squad, but it shows a lot of quality. Especially on the offensive we have strengthened the already well-positioned squad. With Joseph Boyamba we had a departure that was manageable. Instead, Berkan Taz and Dominik Kother were added. Another striker and right winger would certainly be good for the width of the squad. The midfield is probably the showpiece of the squad: Marco Höger definitely rules here (photo)! With Bentley Baxter Bahn and Adrian Malachowski we have two strong newcomers. With Stefano Russo and Fridolin Wagner, the width is also good. This is probably the best midfield in the league.

The defense is still a problem child, especially the full-backs. Niklas-Wilson Sommer and Johannes Dörfler are still struggling with injuries, meaning that no trained right-back was available during the last preparations. At least Malte Karbstein was recently signed by the OFC as a backup for the seeded Julian Riedel and Marcel Seegert.

Where do you see a need for improvement by Deadline Day?

There is a need for improvement, especially in the full-back positions. Lukas Pinckert was in trial practice and would be a strong backup. Also on the left side would have to be refilled. I still see room for improvement in the striker position. With Pascal Sohm and Dominik Martinovic we only have two strikers, which is not enough for a long season. I would have liked the flexible Danny Blum here, who was last without a club but joined APOEL Nicosia.

What do you expect from the playful appearance of the team?

This question is not easy to answer, as we have not only got a few new players, but also a new coach in Christian Neidhart. The idea of the game will probably be very different from that of Patrick Glöckner: more possession and dominance. Whether this type suits the Waldhof remains to be seen, the player material is at least available. It will probably come down to a 4-3-3 and I could imagine playing like that.

What’s in store for Waldhof Mannheim over the entire season?

The 3rd division is traditionally very tight. Some clubs claim to play at the top, just like the Waldhof. The goal was clearly communicated: Promotion to the 2nd division is a must. Whether this will be successful depends on many factors. My assessment: places 1 to 5 are possible and anything below would be a disappointment.
