User opinion Rot-Weiss Essen: Focus on the carefree season

Fan series for the 3rd division

With the help of the community, Transfermarkt will take a detailed look at the 56 teams in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and Bundesliga 3 in the coming weeks. Which players are the fans looking forward to the most, where is there room for improvement and what is in the squad for 2022/23 for your favorite club? For this we asked around in the forums and picked up assessments – in league three it continues with user “Gottschalkelf” and Rot-Weiss Essen.

How do you rate the Rot-Weiss Essen squad?

The team that has been promoted, which has largely stayed together for the past two years and has played two fantastic seasons, has been selectively strengthened this summer. Basically, the team in Essen is absolutely capable of playing in the 3rd league. With Felix Bastians, Daniel Heber, Thomas Eisfeld, Luca Dürholtz, Oguzhan Kefkir, Isaiah Young and Co. you have enough individual class in the squad to survive. On the access side, Björn Rother made a king transfer in defensive midfield, who should provide the necessary stability in midfield with his experience and mentality. In addition, Lawrence Ennali, Aurel Loubongo and Ron Berlinski have increased the pace for the offensive. RWE is going into the coming season with a well-established and selectively strengthened squad.

Where do you see a need for improvement by Deadline Day?

The squad is currently far too large at 31 players, and should be thinned out by the end of the transfer period to prevent dissatisfaction and bad mood within the team. In addition, head coach Christoph Dabrowski prefers to work with a smaller squad, the target size is 27 players. Central defender Yannick Langesberg has switched to TSV Steinbach. Defensive player Felix Schlüsselburg no longer plays a role in the plans of those responsible. In addition, Sascha Voelcke, Fabian Rüth and Erolind Krasniqi could still be candidates for a departure or a loan. On the other hand, a new striker could be added on the access side in order to have the opportunity to act with a double leadership.

What do you expect from the playful appearance of the team?

After being favorites in every game in the last three years under Christian Titz and Christian Neidhart, this situation will now change completely in the 3rd division. As a result, RWE, under its new coach Christoph Dabrowski, will refrain from possession football and focus more on pressing. In the preparatory games, RWE played an offensive attacking pressing, when in possession they tried to quickly bridge the midfield and get the fast wing players into the game. The classic target player that RWE had with Simon Engelmann in the last two years no longer exists in the new system. Rather, the crowd favorite and regional league record scorer must also adapt to the new system. Tactically, RWE will continue to play in 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.

What’s in it for RWE in 2022/23?

This question is extremely difficult to answer, in the past the promoted teams from the Regionalliga West always played a good role in the 3rd division and had little to do with relegation. The team is absolutely capable of not having anything to do with relegation, but those responsible, players and fans will also have to get used to losing games more often. If RWE takes the promotion euphoria with it and gets off the starting blocks well, a big surprise may be possible, but the focus is on a season that is as carefree as possible.
