User opinion on Greuther Fürth: Flat pass meets youth forscht

Fan series for the 2nd league

With the help of the community, Transfermarkt will take a detailed look at the 56 teams in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and Bundesliga 3 in the coming weeks. Which players are the fans looking forward to the most, where is there room for improvement and what is in the squad for 2022/23 for your favorite club? For this we asked around in the forums and picked up assessments – in league two it continues with user “Darts_Fan_15” and SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

How do you rate the SpVgg Greuther Fürth squad?

Given the squad, I’m confident about the new season. With goalkeeper Andreas Linde, the experienced central defense around Sebastian Griesbeck and new signing Oussama Haddadi, who is a Tunisian international and former World Cup participant, and Max Christiansen in six, there is a good defensive framework. There is also offensive potential: loan striker Ragnar Ache was able to hint at this in the pre-season, Jeremy Dudziak could, if he stays injury-free, put his stamp on the cloverleaf game from the tenth position.

With the U-national players Sidney Raebiger and Armindo Sieb, talents were signed from a shelf that no one dared to dream of a few years ago. And I also believe that other talents like Tobias Raschl and Simon Asta can take a big step in their development.

What is essential for me is the whereabouts of Branimir Hrgota, who as captain is an extremely important support for the young guns around him both on and off the pitch. The footballing qualities of the Swedish national player are beyond any doubt in the 2nd Bundesliga anyway. Hrgota himself is still flirting with staying in the Bundesliga, but knows and appreciates his own position in the cloverleaf.

The new coach Marc Schneider recently complained about a drop in quality between the first eleven and the rest of the squad. These words seem understandable, so there is a lot of width in midfield, but in defense and possibly also offensively one or the other alternative is needed.

Where do you see a need for improvement by Deadline Day?

As already clearly stated by sports director Rachid Azzouzi, the biggest construction site in the squad is the central defense. After Gideon Jung had to undergo another operation on his knee, there are currently only three players available for this position, one of whom, Oliver Fobassam, has not yet played professionally. In addition to a certain amount of experience, a new signing should also be of good size in order to increase the quality of standards.

For the left side of defence, the search for a backup for Luca Itter, who is committed from Freiburg, is probably still being sought, since the coaching team sees Jetro Willems more in midfield. In my opinion, a variable attacking player would also look good on the squad. Otherwise, with the cloverleaf, it is always conceivable that a short-term reaction may have to be made to the departure of a top performer. In addition to Hrgota, Timothy Tillman is considered a candidate for a departure in the direction of the Bundesliga. However, nothing is currently known about any offers from either of them.

What do you expect from the playful appearance of the team?

This question cannot really be answered yet. The new coach Marc Schneider from Switzerland is still unknown to the experts at his first station in Germany, but has already earned a good reputation in the Fürth area thanks to his authentic demeanor. Schneider has already indicated that he values fast, direct passing. Tactically, this will most likely be reflected in a 4-4-2 with a midfield diamond, as the squad is designed for this game system. Together with the experienced assistant trainer Rainer Widmayer, the focus should of course be placed more on the further development of talent. “Fuerther Flachpass” meets “Jugend forscht” is how you could sum up the plan for what the cloverleaf should stand for this season and for long stretches of its long second division history.

What can SpVgg Greuther Fürth do for the whole season?

Despite a sobering detour to the top flight of German football, as a cloverleaf fan you can be optimistic about the coming season. There is plenty of talent in the team, so a good start would be extremely important for this to be brought to the pitch – and of course that the experienced supporters stay with us. So far there has only been one point from two games and above all the defeat in the derby. But when these factors work together, there is a lot in what is once again a very balanced second division.

Personally, I would rate a performance in the top third of the table as a success. It’s still too early to offensively declare promotion as a goal. At first glance, the squad and the new coaching team fit together well and should bring some joy to the white-green supporters.
