Fan series for the 3rd division
With the help of the community, Transfermarkt will take a detailed look at the 56 teams in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and Bundesliga 3 in the coming weeks. Which players are the fans looking forward to the most, where is there room for improvement and what is in the squad for 2022/23 for your favorite club? For this we asked around in the forums and picked up assessments – in league three we continue with user “munga” and 1. FC Saarbrücken.
How do you rate the squad of 1. FC Saarbrücken?
For me, the transfer summer of 1. FC Saarbrücken began with the announcement of the goal for the season: “RISE”. My first thought was: “Once again the megalomania typical of the club”. With this squad? Never! The next shock came when Boné Uaferro (595 minutes of play) and Bjarne Thoelke (147 minutes) and Bjarne Thoelke (147 minutes) contract extensions – two 30-year-old long-term injured players with the goal of promotion for the season. It continued in this style.

With Tobias Schwede (238 min.) and Julius Biada (33 min.), a 28- and a 29-year-old were signed, who were permanently injured in the previous season. It felt like these four players weren’t on the pitch for 1,000 minutes last season. It continued with 29-year-old Kasim Rabihic and 35-year-old Mike Frantz. But more on this later. The first rays of hope were the commitments of Richard Neudecker (from 1860) and Marvin Cuni (Bayern II) as well as the professional contract for our up-and-coming talent Frederik Recktenwald. So far, the squad planning is (still) difficult for me to understand, especially with the goal for the season.
Where do you see a need for improvement by Deadline Day?
With 26 players in the squad at the moment, we are quite well positioned quantitatively. Now to Mike Frantz, my dream signing: He may be the oldest player in the squad, but he is also the most experienced. He is from Saarbrücken and it was his wish to end his career with his hometown club 1. FC Saarbrücken. A player like that can make all the difference and I trust Mike to do the same.
What do you expect from the playful appearance of the team?
With the last 3-4-1-2 system played, I would like the following line-up on the pitch – without taking injuries into account: Batz – Zellner, Frantz, Thoelke – Ernst, Zeitz, Neudecker, Kerber, Günther-Schmidt – Grimaldi, Rabihic
In any case, we have a better squad in terms of width than last season.

What can 1. FC Saarbrücken do for the whole season?
In terms of pure market value, those who have been relegated from the second division are certainly ahead of us. In terms of mentality, however, I believe that we can definitely keep up with this squad. Thank God no player left us this summer that I will miss. I’m expecting a season without worries about relegation and I hope that we can play at the top for a long time and finally win the Saarland Cup again.
